6:00pm             Prayer Service

Summer Mission Celebration, 4pm TODAY!

The summer period has been an exciting time for CBC/ COTG as many people have taken part in mission events either personally or through supporting those who have participated.  This afternoon we will be having a Summer Mission Celebration event where we can hear from those who served on mission events which will then be followed by praying for God’s ongoing work in these mission areas.  We will start at 4pm with finger food and hearing from those who went, followed by the evening prayer service.  We hope as many of you as possible can come and please bring some finger food to share. In addition, the Tanzania Building team will be selling shopping bags, aprons, cafetiere covers and other fabrics in support of the Africa Inland Church mission. The items are made in Morogoro in support of aids widows and their families. You will need cash to purchase these goodies!!

If you are able to help serve drinks, set up the tables and clear up, please let Wendy Rowe know. We look forward to seeing you.

Night of Prayer for Children and Youth

Note the date – 6th October, 7.30pm to midnight! (yes you read correctly!) We will be setting up prayer stations in the church designed to help you pray for the burgeoning youth and children’s work at CBC. We are simply asking you to sign up for one 30 minute slot (sign up sheet at the back). If you have not witnessed Dan’s prayer stations before – you have missed out! They have been developed to help even the most novice of pray’ers to engage with God in prayer through visual props. So why come? You get to spend time with God, you get to bring before Him some crucial ministries in the life of the church, and compared to last time’s all-nighter the latest slot finishes at midnight – it’s a WIN win situation! So sign up now!

INSPIRE – WEBA training for people working children, youth and families

There is an opportunity to join with others from our region at Cirencester BC for a day of inspiration and encouragement on Saturday 14th October 10am – 4pm.  To see what is on the agenda and to sign up please visit http://www.webassoc.org.uk/event/inspire/.  Speak to Rhiannon if you want more information.

HARVEST SERVICE OFFERINGS – 8th October 2017

On Sunday 8th October, the offering from the harvest festival services across all of our congregations will support the work of the Corsham Churches Foodbank and Tearfund.  Non-perishable food items (information on sheets at the back) will be taken to the Foodbank.  Our monetary offering will be sent to Tearfund to support the work of Living Waters Church in Malawi where their EAGLES project is empowering rural subsistence farming communities to grow crops in a more sustainable way as they seek to combat the adverse impact of climate change.  Please do pray about how you can contribute towards this offering.

If you are able to gift aid your donation, special yellow envelopes for your monetary offering are available on the table at the back of the building.  Please do mark them “HARVEST – TEARFUND”.  When the offering is taken on the day, only the contents of the yellow envelopes, and loose cash/cheques will be included in the Harvest offering total.  Blue envelopes will be treated as regular giving to the general work of the church.  Please speak to Lynne Little (Rudloe), Michael Prior (Priory Street 9.15) or Roger Hammett (Priory Street 11.15) should you wish to clarify these arrangements.

REFLECTIONS ON GOD’S GOSPEL GRACE

kathylarkman,
VICKY PHOTO

VICKY STEPHENSON, Contributor for today’s blog post

Welcome back, it was amazing to see so many of us gathered on Monday, new faces and old friends. It is great to be working together looking at God’s word and encouraging one another in grace.
Huge thank you to Anne and Kathy for putting together such a wonderful evening to catch up and be inspired with all that God has for us this year.
I was really challenged by the teaching on Monday and here are some brief reflections that I had.

God’s gospel grace is something I find so easy at a head level and so hard at a heart level. I can totally get the grace of forgiveness of sins at conversion;

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.

It can’t really be put any clearer than the way John Newton wrote all those years go. I understand this and accept it giving thanks and praise to God.

BUT fresh gospel grace each day after so many years of being a Christian? Believe me, I totally know I need it! However the issue lies with whether I fully trust God will give it to me.
You see the issue that really hit home on Monday that I am half Amy and half Imogen and very rarely Cindy (if you have no idea what I am talking about see Kathy’s notes from the talk on Monday on this website). I spend half my life striving to try and please God and the other half feeling guilty I have failed. So fresh grace every day seems very distant.

I think about how annoying it is when I have to ask the kids for the 10th time not to leave their shoes in the middle of the kitchen floor; or how irritating it is to find that yet again all the mugs at work are dirty. Do you find it frustrating when your husband, sister, mother does that thing which really grates on you? So how must it be for God, when everyday, for the last twenty years, He has had to remind me to see people how he sees them…to curb my impatience, tame my tongue and so much more beside. Doesn’t He just get fed up of me and say “she has had her chance and she has blown it?”

1cc19207f9a7be506aef9a6dac205b3bNo He doesn’t!! How amazing is that.

Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV)
22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
He loves us and forgives us day after day, we don’t ever deserve it, it is all from His great love. He forgives us continuously without end, just He as expects us to forgive others.
Matthew 18:21-22 (ESV)
21 Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.
SO the challenge for me this month is to preach God’s gospel grace to myself each morning, to trust in His forgiveness and to rest in His joy. By doing this, I pray His spirit will work in me to slowly transform me into the woman He wants me to be able to do all the good works he has prepared for me.
Ephesians 2:10 (ESV)
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

2017-2018 WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY- LIVING OUT GOD’S GRACE

kathylarkman,

1cc19207f9a7be506aef9a6dac205b3b
It is a wonder and joy when we come to faith in Jesus through the gift of God’s amazing grace. Becoming Christ’s follower, though, is only the beginning! It is also about growing and becoming more like Jesus. It is hard work, and that’s where we can turn from His grace to works and get off track.

In this year’s women’s bible study, we will explore the grace of the gospel which brings us to faith in Christ and is the same grace which motivates us to live out our salvation; how to grow to maturity and holiness in Christ. To help us, we will consider Jesus’ life as he lived out the cycle of God’s grace while on earth.

If you’ve struggled with the Christian disciplines, and have found yourself weary, confused, or burnt out, this study will comfort and challenge you as you learn to rest in God’s grace in your journey to become more like Christ.

Our first study is MONDAY, 25 SEPTEMBER at 7:30pm in the church hall. The hand outs are available in hard copy at the churches and on this website where you click on 2017-2018 LIVING OUT GOD’S GRACE BIBLE STUDY QUESTIONS.  If you need a study buddy or don’t know what one is in this context, please see ANNE HOLMES. The guidelines are also on this website.

We hope to see you there!

Week of Prayer 2017

Tim Stephenson,
silhouetted person kneels before cross

Welcome to our Week of Prayer!

To help you get started, I have prepared some prayer points some of which are requests from those involved in the ministries and some of which are suggestions. This is not an exhaustive list, so please don’t be constrained by it but pray as the Spirit leads you. You may like to begin by reading a psalm of praise and praising God for all He is and has done for us in Christ. (Some suggestions – Psalm 8, 96, 103, 145, 146.)

Our vision is to be a “gospel-centred church”, aiming to make disciples, reach out to the local community with the love and truth of God and to play our part in taking the gospel to the “ends of the earth”. (Acts 1:8) With this in mind, let’s lift the ministries of our church to God in prayer!

LEADERSHIP TEAM

WHERE NEXT? GOSPEL EXPANSION

Where is God opening up doors?

  • Doors to open and the courage to pursue opportunities when they arise
    Pray that God would so fill our hearts with the love of Christ that it overflows to those around us
  • Praise God for the work He is doing in Wadswick Green – pray for Norman and Pat Fuggle as they share the gospel there – that hearts would be softened and eyes opened in that community
  • Possibility of helping Josh and Alanna Parmar transition from youth ministry to pastoral oversight of a church. God’s wisdom as to if we should pursue this and how we should pursue this. God’s wisdom and guidance for Josh and Alanna concerning their future service

Lancaster Quilt

The craft club has completed a quilt for the Lancasters! If anyone is travelling up to Scotland before Christmas by car preferably and would be willing to take the quilt to Steve’s parent’s, just this side of Scotland, address to be obtained soon, it would be very helpful. It is a King size and rather large for posting!  Please speak to Pam Mitchell if you can help.  Thank you.

Attention Women! – LIVING OUT GOD’S GRACE

Our first study is on MONDAY, 25 SEPTEMBER at 7:30pm in the church hall. The hand outs for this study are on the table at the back.  If you need a study buddy or don’t know what one is in this context, please see ANNE HOLMES.   We hope to see you there!

Reformation Remix Show – Sunday, October 8th at 6:30pm (doors open 6pm)

This year marks the 500th anniversary of the Reformation starting with Martin Luther nailing his 95 Theses to the door of the church in Wittenberg. We owe a great deal to this period of church history, and to mark the occasion the Bible Society have created a show to tell the historical story in a very engaging and entertaining way.  Corsham Baptist Church is hosting a live performance of the show (October 8th) and regardless of whether or not you’re are a keen historian this show is not to be missed! You’ll come away with a better understanding of this important period having also been well-entertained by the impeccable acting, humour and music.  This is an open and free event, so please invite your friends to join too!
