Mission Trips’ Thank Offering – 3rd March 2019

As we seek to play our part in spreading God’s love around the world, on Sunday 3rd March, we will be holding a thank offering to build up a fund to support self-funding adults who volunteer to serve on our future Mission Teams. This year, teams will be going out to support an AIM conference in Uganda and to help with construction work at the AIM Sanga Sanga conference centre in Tanzania.  The money raised will be lodged in our Restricted Mission Trips Fund. Please do pray about how you can contribute towards this offering.  Special yellow envelopes for your Gift Day offering will be available on the table at the back of the building. Please mark the envelope MISSION TRIPS THANK OFFERING, and if you are able to gift aid your donation, please complete the declaration on the envelope.  If you are not able to do this, please just score out the declaration. When the offering is taken on the day, only the contents of the yellow envelopes will be included in the Thank Offering total.  Blue envelopes and loose cash/cheques will be treated as regular giving to the general work of the church.  Please speak to Paul Garcia (Church on the Green), Michael Prior (Priory Street 9.15) or Roger Hammett (Priory Street 11.15) should you wish to clarify these arrangements.

The mission team going to Uganda from 9-16 August is still incomplete but those definitely going at this stage are: Eddie and Kathy L, Dan O, Rhiannon P, Chris S.  We look forward to announcing the remaining team members in due course!

Request for 11:15 Junior Church leaders and helpers

We are desperate for more people to join the Junior Church Team. Please prayerfully consider joining so that we can be more effective in this wonderful ministry. We have all the resources required to teach. We have five classes that all need help: Crèche; the preschool and reception group called Romans; the age 5-7 group called Ephesians; the age 7-11 group called Galatians and the Philippians group for years 6-8. All it requires for a leader is 30 minutes or so to prepare for the lesson and giving your time during the sermon to serve Junior Church. With more people on the Rota this will be less frequent than it is for the current leaders and helpers and you can decide your availability and how frequently you can help out.You can catch up with the Sermon because it is recorded. If you volunteer as a helper, you would be helping the leader and ensuring we have two adults within the group setting. You will be a blessing to the children and will be blessed. Please come for a taster session if you are not sure. Please speak to any member of the Junior Church Team or Catherine D.

Mission News!

Steve and Gill Bryant have put out their December newsletter.  Please take a copy from the table at the back.

A reminder that the Littles‘ blogs can be found at matthewswestafricanadventure.blogspot.com and alittleodyssey.blogspot.com as they continue serving the Lord on Africa Mercy off the coast of West Africa.

Neal and Lesley Grindrod leave for Vienna on Sunday 27th January and return on Monday 8th April. They do not have any airport transport organised yet and would be very grateful if someone from CBC could help them out.  They need to be at Bristol airport for 10am on the Sunday morning.

Prayer requests for Lesley and Neal:

* That God would keep them both strong and healthy as they prepare to leave for Austria

* That they will be able to ‘hit the ground running’ and be a blessing to the team and refugees

* That the team dynamic (relationships) will be healthy and they will fit in easily under the new leadership at Oasis

Oasis Building Mission Trip

Martin Sheringham is leading a building team to the Oasis Centre, Traiskirchen, Vienna on 2/3rd February returning 9/10th February.  Paul Garcia and Chris Drake are the other two going. They will be remodelling a toilet to allow for wheel chair access.  Please pray for the preparations required to make this trip successful. Thank you.

Clothing Donations to the Oasis Refugee Centre

Martin and the team would like to take clothing aid as they will be going in a mini-van. Oasis would like donations of clothing but they are mainly in need of new adult men’s/women’s underwear and socks.  Other warm second hand clothing – coats, hats etc would be welcome, but the greatest need is for the former.  Please bring donations to church during the week preceding the trip ie. from January 26th onwards and leave in the big box which will be in the church entrance.  Any queries, please contact Jo or Martin Sheringham.

Carols by Candlelight Service

This evening is our annual carols by candlelight service, commencing at 6pm.  We look forward to welcoming church members and their friends and family to this special service.

Carols by Candlelight Service Offering

The offering from the carols by candlelight Service tonight will be sent to support the work of the Oasis Centre, our mission partners in Austria working alongside refugees.  In February, we will be sending out a Building Team to renovate a toilet and make it fully accessible for the disabled; the money will be put towards the costs of this work.  If you are able to gift aid your donation, special yellow envelopes for your monetary offering are available on the table at the back of the building.  Please do mark them “CHRISTMAS – OASIS”.  When the offering is taken, only the contents of the yellow envelopes, and loose cash/cheques will be included in the offering total.  Blue envelopes will be treated as regular giving to the general work of the church.

Our(red) Christmas card board is at the back. Please use this to pin your card to the CBC fellowship (pins in glass jar on the table). If you have cards for specific people/families, please hand deliver personally or post (please do not put/leave on the tables at the back as we end up with scores of unclaimed cards by the end of the festive season!!). There is also a card to sign for the Littles as they celebrate their first Christmas on Africa Mercy!
