Young And Old Together

I’ve been reading accounts of the Hebridean Revivals that took place in the twentieth century and was struck by this comment from a young man converted at that time:

It was amazing to see how the older Christians cared for the converts. They were so supportive, so caring. They were so well nurtured and the young converts desired to be in the company of older Christians whenever they could.

I think a lot of the young converts nowadays miss out on that. They don’t desire the company of older Christians. They were our College, our Theological College. We learned so much from them. One thing the young do not have is experience. We gained so much. (From Colin and Mary Peckham, “Sounds From Heaven”).

A challenge for young(er) and old(er) alike!

His Perfect Work

“I like those words, ‘Our life is like the weaver’s web’ for it is so true to life.   We only see the wrong side of the fabric now, for the Weaver has not finished his work.   But in the Day to come, where we shall see it from his side, then we shall behold the beauty of his work and not the knots and ends which our sins and failures have caused.”   -Vera E. Pink

The Joy of Returning to God

“In the end, coming to faith remains for all a sense of homecoming, of picking up the threads of a lost life, of responding to a bell that had long been ringing, of taking a place at a table that had long been vacant.”

Malcolm Muggeridge

Trials

I have reason to praise him for my trials, for, most probably, I should have been ruined without them. —John Newton

The Father Heart of God

“Many people visualize a God who sits comfortably on a distant throne, remote, aloof, uninterested, and indifferent to the needs of mortals, until, it may be, they can badger him into taking action on their behalf. Such a view is wholly false. The Bible reveals a God who, long before it even occurs to man to turn to him, while man is still lost in darkness and sunk in sin, takes the initiative, rises from his throne, lays aside his glory, and stoops to seek until he finds him.”

John Stott, “Basic Christianity”

God’s Amazing Love For Us

It is misleading to say that God accepts us the way we are. Rather He accepts us despite the way we are.
