Baptisms!

Rob Durant Visit

We are prayerfully considering inviting Rob Durant to join our pastoral staff at CBC. Rob is well-known to many here as he was formerly a student pastor with us for three years. He has since been serving as a pastor in Dagenham. Rob and Sharon will be with us 29-30 November, together with their children Anna (6) & Eddie (4). The provisional programme is:

Sat 29th

  • Lunch with our Rudloe Congregation
  • 3-5pm Open house at the Larkmans for any who have not yet met Rob and Sharon
  • 7.30pm Leadership Team meet with Rob and Sharon

Sun 30th

  • 10.45am Rob preaching at our morning service, with opportunity to chat afterwards
  • 4-5pm Question and answer session with Rob at CBC – your chance to ask!
  • 5pm Tea / coffee and informal chat
  • 6pm Rob preaching at our evening service, with more opportunity to talk afterwards.

A special church meeting will be held at CBC on Monday, 1st Dec at 8pm, to decide whether to proceed with calling Rob to join our staff team.

Life in the Lancs Lane

Steve and Ruth, our missionaries in Tanzania, have compiled another interesting and information-packed newsletter for November. There are paper copies on the table at the back or you can visit their blog at http://www.lancsintanz.blogspot.co.uk/

We are sending the Lancasters a parcel for Christmas and invite you to write cards and/or give small gifts which we will send all together. Please give to Kathy.

Vicky is organising some dates when housegroups will get together over “questions and cake”. The dates are:

Midweek Service

Ladies’ Bible Study

The next ladies’ bible study will be held at CBC on Monday 24th November at 7.30pm. All ladies are welcome to attend. Please speak to Anne Holmes or Kathy Larkman if you would like to know more about these meetings.

Ladies’ Christmas Meal

This will be held on Monday 15th December at 7.30pm.   We will have home-made soup and pudding. Cost is £3pp. Please sign up on the sheet at the back so we have an idea for catering purposes. Thank you.

We are continuing with our regular prayer meetings for gospel expansion in Corsham and surrounding areas. The meetings take place in The Hut from 8.30-9.30am on Saturday mornings. We would encourage people to attend this prayer meeting and everyone is welcome!

Trip to Oasis Centre, Austria

Joan is going out to visit the Oasis Centre and shall be returning to England on Saturday 6th December. If anyone is able to pick Joan up from Heathrow at 9.25pm on the 6th and return to Corsham, please contact her.

Ebola crisis

Ebola crisis

If anyone would like to donate towards the Ebola crisis, you may do so by putting money into a white donation envelope (available on the table in the church entrance) and mark it ‘EBOLA’. Place your envelope into the offering bag.  If you are a tax-payer and qualify for gift-aid, you may also fill in your other details on the envelope and sign it, and this will increase the value of your gift. Michael Prior, our Treasurer, will send the donations to Tearfund.

We are continuing with our regular prayer meetings for gospel expansion in Corsham and surrounding areas. The meetings take place in The Hut from 8.30-9.30am on Saturday mornings. We would encourage people to attend this prayer meeting and everyone is welcome!

Serving at Priory Street

We are in need of further people to step up and fill roles in the following areas here at Priory Street as there are several gaps. Please contact the Ministry Leader to indicate your willingness to serve in any of these ministries.

Rudloe News!

At the church meeting on the 13th October, the proposal – that with God’s enabling, we seek to establish a gospel-centred church in Rudloe – was unanimously agreed!

The first Rudloe Church service will take on Sunday 2nd November at the Rudloe Community Centre at 10.45am.  Please lift this to God in prayer.

We are continuing with our regular prayer meetings for gospel expansion in Corsham and surrounding areas. The meetings take place in The Hut from 8.30-9.30am on Saturday mornings. We would encourage people to attend this prayer meeting and everyone is welcome!

The Light Party

This is our annual outreach – as an alternative to halloween – for children aged 5-11 years in our church and the community. It will be held this Friday 31st October at the church from 6-8pm. Registration forms are available for your child/ren. Please complete and return to Ginny or the church office.

Evening Service 2nd November

At the evening service on 2nd Nov, we will have a talk by Jutter Henner from the Austrian Bible Society. We look forward to hearing about her work.

Parking along Priory Street

Once again we are experiencing problems with people parking on Priory Street on a Sunday morning and upsetting our neighbours. May we kindly request that you park in one of the town carparks or other streets in the surrounding area but not along Priory Street.

We have requested that those who are moving to Rudloe inform relevant ministry leaders as soon as possible that they will be relinquishing their duties here at Priory Street (at least for Sunday mornings) and ask that replacements be found on current rotas. Rudloe Plant

At the church meeting on the 13th October, the proposal – that with God’s enabling, we seek to establish a gospel-centred church in Rudloe – was unanimously agreed! We give thanks to God for his guidance and leading during this process and would ask that everyone continues to pray for this pioneering venture.

Church Meeting

At the church meeting the following people were welcomed into membership of Corsham Baptist Church: Lucy James and Julie Feltham. The following positions of responsibility were also agreed: Julie King – human resources adviser; Louise du Toit – in charge of the building. In addition, due to pressures of family and work, Stuart Little has stepped down from his role as elder; Gill Bryant has given notice that her role as Missions Deacon will come to an end in January 2015.

The Light Party

This is our annual outreach – as an alternative to halloween – for children aged 5-11 years in our church and the community. It will be held on Friday 31st October at the church from 6-8pm. We will need help in various areas. If you would like to serve in this way, please sign up on the sheet at the back. Registration forms are also available for your child/ren. Youth Weekend Away

Next weekend, Dan and a group of 30 young people and leaders will be going to Woodcroft Christian Centre, near Chepstow, for their weekend away.  However, in order to make this youth trip possible we need your help!   Here are two ways in which you can help support: 1) Drivers: we need individuals willing to drive young people to and/or from the Christian Centre on Friday afternoon (24th Oct) / Sunday afternoon (26th Oct). 2) Prayer! That God would bless our time away, that the young people will grow in friendships with one another and ultimately with God! If you can assist, please let Dan know. Thanks.

New Cooker

To all those who are wondering why the cooker has not been installed yet, we are waiting for E-ON to upgrade our gas meter. This is necessary because of the larger boiler and cooker gas requirement than we had before.

Church Meeting

Our next church meeting will be held on Monday 13th October at 8pm. It is a very important meeting as we will be voting on the church plant in Rudloe. Would as many members as possible please attend.

Harvest Offering

Thank you for all the donations made to the Ebola crisis via Tearfund and the work of the Oasis Centre. Offerings received were in the region of £1234.

Sunday 19th October

Please note, there will be no evening service at CBC on Sunday, 19th October. It is Bible Sunday and there will be a joint service at St. Patrick’s at 6pm.

Compassion Sunday

Sunday 19th October has been designated as Compassion Sunday to focus on the plight of children living in extreme poverty. Compassion is a child sponsorship programme, which works to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name. There will be a short presentation during the service, and an opportunity for you to sponsor a child. After the service Roger and Hazel, and John and Rachael will be available with child profiles, and to answer any questions you may have.

Request for Old Reading Glasses

Bible Society want to support a literacy class in Cambodia by providing reading glasses. If you have any reading glasses that you no longer need, could you give them to Sue Wingrave so that she can pass them on. If anyone is interested in some pictures of the last time we provided some, Sue can email them to you.

Items for Sale

A member of our congregation has some items for sale, proceeds of which will be given to the church. Some of the items include conservatory table and chairs, and children’s bicycles. If you are interested, please contact Louise in the office and she will give you further details.
