Ladies’ Bible Study/Social
The first ladies’ bible study of the autumn will take place tomorrow night, 28th September, at 7.30pm and will be a chilli night! Cost will be £4 per person. There is a sign-up sheet at the back so please write your name down if you want to attend – it’s not too late!
Same-Sex Marriage
Following on from previous notices regarding book recommendations on this subject, we are planning to run a morning meeting dedicated to this issue. The meeting will take place at Church on Saturday 10th October from 9am-12.30pm. The morning will include biblical teaching and will cover pastoral issues related to SSM. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion during the morning. Eddie, Rob and Dan will be leading the meeting.
** Support for the Oasis Centre **
The crisis facing refugees in Austria is ongoing, and we would like to take every opportunity of helping the Oasis Centre in its work amongst them. We are currently investigating the possibility of sending out a small team to help at the Oasis Centre, and this will need our financial support. We shall be donating our harvest offerings on Sunday 4th October to the Refugee Crisis. Cheques should be made payable to CBC. Any further donations should be given in an envelope marked ‘REFUGEE CRISIS’, so that your donations can support either Oasis itself or the expenses of any worker or team which we may send out to Austria. If you qualify for gift-aid, please fill in your details on a gift-aid envelope.
Fabric Deacon
Following Paul Garcia’s resignation as fabric deacon, nominations are closing today for the election of a new deacon which will take place at the 5th October Church Meeting. All necessary paper work is on the table at the back of church. Please hand your form in to Alan Kember or Alan Christie.
CBC Craft Group
Craft Group will be meeting again on Saturday 3rd October, 10am-12.30 in the coffee hall. This month the workshop will be looking at how to cut out a dress using a paper pattern. The fabric boxes are near completion and there is always help with other projects. We will be thinking about Christmas Craft over coffee and cake! For more information contact Pam or Kathy or just pop in next Saturday.
Midweek Baptism Service
Our midweek service on 7 October will be a service of Believer’s Baptism for two of our regular congregation. Eric Seager will lead the service and David Morrell will preach from 2 Kings 5.1-19. All are very welcome to attend!
Harvest Service
Our annual harvest service will be held next Sunday 4th October. Please bring your items (no fresh food) on the morning and we will distribute them during the week. Food donations will go to the Corsham Churches Food Bank. Financial contributions may be made to CBC and marked “Refugee Crisis” on the white envelope. Thank you!
Annual Light Party
We will be holding our Light Party on October 31st from 5-7pm. There will be singing, games, crafts, snacks, puppets and lots of fun. This is an event for 4 to 11 year olds (all primary school children). If you are able to help with this event, please sign up on the sheet at the back of church. Areas we particularly need help with are: Set up and Set down – moving chairs on Sunday 25th October (after the evening service) and again after the event (7.30pm on 31st) and a general tidy up. Catering – Judy has done a fantastic job for many years on her own and this year we would love to have team of caterers supporting her. If you can bake please sign up and/or speak to Judy. Helping on the evening – group leaders. games co-ordinator, welcome team, registration team and many other roles. Face painting; Worship band – Do you have any fairy lights that we could borrow? If so, please name them and leave them in the church office or give them to Rhiannon. This event can’t run without your help and support. Thank you !!
‘Connected’
Connected is a new group designed to give busy parents an opportunity to get together to relax, have fun, share a meal and develop our relationships with our Christian brothers and sisters, without the distraction of children! This is more than just a social; it’s about building each other up in Christ to be a light in our busy worlds and to encourage each others’ families to stay faithful to Christ in our increasingly secular society. We plan to meet once a month on a Saturday evening. So, if you’d like to join us, please speak to Tim and Beth Mills for more information.
Proverbs 27:17 “as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
Hebrews 10:24-25 “and let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”
“Meals” Ministry
The provision of meals on wheels to new families and those who are ill and needing meals, is a busy and much-appreciated service. We are looking for a co-ordinator who can arrange the meals as needed. Mike and Sarah Blaikley have done a great job but have to stop this from December 2015. Is there someone, or a couple, who can co-ordinate from next January? If you feel you can serve in this way or would like further information, please contact the Blaikleys or Joan Cooper.
Lancasters’ Request
The Lancasters are asking our mission team going out to Tanzania next month to bring three or four used board games/jigsaws in fairly good condition (things like Scrabble, Uno, Jenga, card games etc). They want to use them for Sanga Sanga visitors. If you can help please contact Kathy Larkman. Thank you!
Steph Grylls in Bangladesh
Please pray for Steph as she is on mission in Bangladesh until December. You can follow her progress via this web link http://missioninbangladesh1778.blogspot.co.uk/
