Craft Group

After many years of being a place for people to meet, form friendships and enjoy doing crafts together, the Craft group had its final meeting last Saturday. We are hugely thankful to Pam, Cathy and others for their dedication in leading this ministry over the years.

Hang Out – Sunday 11th June

Dear Key Stage 2 parents/guardians, please send your KS2 children along to Priory Street on Sunday (4:00-5:30pm) for fun, food & fellowship. Any questions, please see Beth Mills or Rhiannon.

Compassion service

Thank you to all who provided cakes and biscuits for the Compassion service last Sunday evening. Thanks too to those who gave a financial gift – we will send on the sum of £84 to Compassion. If you weren’t able to attend, do have a look at the website for more information – click here. Compassion also has an app that you can download on your phone, which will keep you up-to-date with news, stories and prayer requests (available from the Apple/Play store). Wendy R uses it and can tell you more about it. You might like to watch a couple of videos which explain how Compassion is working to release children trapped in poverty, and the ministry of a Compassion Project in Uganda.

Men’s Weekend Away – 1st-3rd September

Bookings for the Men’s Weekend Away are now open! We will be staying at Windmill Farm Retreat Centre near Clanfield, OX18 2SN (about an hour’s drive away) from Friday 1st – Sunday 3rd September (usually home around lunchtime on Sunday).  The cost is £65 per person (concessions available as required) but the priority is to have you there so please have a chat with Ian H or Tom B if funding is an issue.  Our brother Steve Lancaster will bring us teaching on Ephesians ch 1 over three sessions under the title “Who am I in Christ?”

There will be plenty of food (chef duties ably supplied by our brother Tim H), walks out, worship, and nightly fellowship around the firepit.  To reserve your place, please click here.  For a virtual tour of the venue, please click here.

Scott Witherick serving the Lord in SASRA

Many of you will remember Scott who was a part of CBC and our youth group several years ago (early 2000’s) who served in the Army for several years. Scott is now married and lives in Northern Ireland with his wife and son.  Scott now works for SASRA (The Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Scripture Readers Association) as a Scripture Reader and their website says: “Working alongside the Chaplaincy, our Scripture Readers work to introduce soldiers and air force personnel to a practical experience of the Christian faith by living alongside and working alongside them ‘behind the wire.’”

Scott is over here working on an army camp and will be at CBC Priory Street on Sunday 25th June at 5pm (please note the time). Scott will give a presentation on the work of SASRA, particularly focused on their evangelism work. Scott recalls when he was in the army how encouraged he was by folks at CBC sending him parcels, notes, cards, Bible verses and prayers which meant so much to him at the time and really encouraged him to keep going on his Christian walk. This promises to be a great evening and will hopefully encourage us all at CBC as we step out afresh in local evangelism.

Help please

Smart meters are scheduled to be installed at The Tynings on Wednesday 14th June. However, EDF requires that someone is present at the house while the work is carried out. If anyone is able to be there from midday onwards to let the EDF engineer in and wait until the work is finished (it could take a couple of hours), please could you let Ruth in the church office know on 01249 701078. We advise you to bring a folding chair and a book to read! Thank you.

Wedding at CBC

We send our warmest wishes to Lydia Pillinger and her fiancé Tom as they get married at Priory Street on Thursday 15th June, and every blessing as they start married life together.

Christian Aid event on 10th June

The Eco Church team at St Paul’s church in Chippenham have arranged a Climate Justice event on Saturday 10th June in collaboration with Christian Aid. “We would love to see people come along, share their thoughts and ideas, and discuss how we can do more. Please bring friends and neighbours.” The event will run from 6pm–9pm. Tickets can be booked here. For more information contact stephen.cozens@outlook.com.
