SASRA – ministry to Forces personnel – Sunday evening at 5pm
Many of you will remember Scott Witherick who was a part of CBC and our youth group in the early 2000’s. After serving in the Army for several years, Scott now works for SASRA (The Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Scripture Readers Association) as a Scripture Reader – their website says: “Working alongside the Chaplaincy, our Scripture Readers work to introduce soldiers and air force personnel to a practical experience of the Christian faith by living alongside and working alongside them ‘behind the wire.’”
Scott is over here working on an army camp and will be at CBC Priory Street this coming Sunday at 5pm. Scott will give a presentation on the work of SASRA, particularly focused on their evangelism work. This promises to be a great evening and will hopefully encourage us all at CBC as we step out afresh in local evangelism.

Times and places for upcoming Sunday services
With the pilot services for the new Sunday morning congregations in Neston/Rudloe and in Corsham happening on the 2nd July, and plans for the Priory Street 9.15 and 11.15 congregations to meet together through August to ease rotas through the summer holidays, we’re aware that it could become a little confusing, so below are the dates and places that we’re gathering to worship on a Sunday morning through to the end of August.
25th June: 9.15am at Priory Street 10am COTG in Rudloe 11.15am at Priory Street | 2nd July – Pilot services for new works: 10.30am: Pilot of new Neston/Rudloe congregation at Neston Memorial Hall.** 10.30am: Pilot of new Corsham congregation at Priory Street. |
All other Sunday morning services in July: 9.15am Priory Street 10am COTG in Rudloe 11.15am at Priory Street | All Sunday morning services in August: The 9.15 and 11.15 congregations will worship together at Priory Street at 10.30am throughout August. 10am COTG in Rudloe as usual. |
If you’re coming to the service in Neston on 2nd July, please only use the Hall car park if you are bringing equipment, or have accessibility needs. Other parking is available on the surrounding roads.
From the end of August, we will return to meeting at 9.15am and 11.15am at Priory Street, and 10am at COTG in Rudloe, with a few exceptions, namely any additional pilot services for the new congregation structure (for which we have not yet fixed a date), and a joint service to celebrate our 200th Anniversary as a church, which will take place on the 29th October, God willing. We will decide on the extra pilot dates soon and let you know when they will be taking place.
We anticipate that the new structure of two congregations meeting in Neston/Rudloe and Corsham will launch in January 2024.
**Rhiannon is organizing provision for junior church at the pilot service in Neston on 2nd July so, in order to ensure that we will have all the resources needed, please let her know if you plan to attend this service with your children. Thank you.
Elder Elections July 2023
Ian Holmes has been an Elder at CBC for 2 terms, which come to an end at the Church Meeting on Monday 17th July. If you are a church member and would like to nominate someone to join the Oversight Team as an Elder, please complete a nomination form (available on the table at church). You will need to get your nominee’s permission and find someone to second your nomination. Please hand your form in to the church office by Sunday 9th July. Ian has confirmed that he is happy to stand again if nominated.
Pledge and Giving Reminder
Following our pledge day in January to balance our finances ahead of our associate pastor joining us in August, a number of pledges have yet to be actioned. If you pledged to increase your giving to support CBC’s work and haven’t yet done so, please consider this a reminder to amend your giving. We recognise that, for some, circumstances will have changed and some pledges may no longer be feasible. If you do not currently give and would like to start, or didn’t pledge and would like to increase your giving, details on how to do this can be found on CBC’s website here: corshambaptists.org/giving.
Every little helps support the activities of the church and makes a real difference. If you have any queries, please feel free to contact Tom L, the CBC treasurer at treasurer@corshambaptists.org. Thank you.
Ark on the Farm – Saturday 1st July – please note the change of date
This will be the last Ark for this academic year and we’re going out with a bang – it’s Ark on the farm!!! Please join us at 10.30am for the Ark, and bring a picnic, chairs, rugs and parasols. This is also an opportunity for the wider church to join us for the picnic too – if you aren’t coming to the Ark please bring your picnic and chairs etc from 12pm for a time of fun and fellowship, maybe even some games. Extra help is needed with refreshments – if you can help serve or you can provide some baked goodies, please let Rhiannon know.
Dates for your diaries
Summer holiday club at Priory Street – Monday 21st to Thursday 24th August. Help is needed for this event, catering, serving refreshments, leaders, helpers, worship band and registration. Please speak to Rhiannon if you can help out or would like to know more.
AIM Conference: we have been invited to provide a children’s team for the AIM Kenya Conference in November. If you would like to know more or be considered for inclusion in the team please speak to Rhiannon. The dates of travel are provisionally 15th-22nd November.
Souper Friday food bank
You may have noticed the large orange ‘bins’ that have appeared at church. These are for collecting donations for Souper Friday’s Marketplace, to bless those who are finding ends hard to meet. If you’re able donate any non-perishable food items (e.g. tinned food , rice, pasta, cereals etc) that would be greatly appreciated. Toiletry items such as toothpaste, soaps, nappies and wet wipes are also needed.
Thank you from Oasis, Austria
Our mission partners at the Oasis centre in Austria have written to thank CBC for our recent donation to their ministry serving refugees. They write, “To our dear brothers and sisters in the Lord at Corsham Baptist, we want to say thank you for your recent generous donation. It is always an encouragement to us when people from far away make such a special effort to support us. The funds will be put to good use. Our interactions with refugees continue to be incredibly meaningful, especially as many of them are hearing the Gospel for the first time. Please keep us in prayer and the refugees too. Iranians, Afghans, Syrians, Moroccans, Somalians and others continue to appear at our door. Praise the Lord for how He works in our midst.”
Middlefields House Summer Fete
From our own Julia B: “Here at Middlefields House in Chippenham, we are holding our first Summer Fete on Friday, 30th June from 2pm–5pm and you are all warmly invited to come and join us. We will have various stalls, events, interactive displays, bouncy castle, games, food and singing. Much of this has been kindly donated by local businesses surrounding us here in Chippenham, making this very much a community-involved event and it would be lovely to see you there!”
Summer Carol Service at Monks Chapel – 2nd July
