We would love more people to be using their gifts to serve the Lord each week in Neston. There are lots of ways to serve in the service and we especially need more helpers & leaders in our Junior church. For more information, please contact Tims@corshambaptists.org.

Missions Evening

On Sunday 11th, Steve and Gill will lead an interactive evening about world mission. How do you share the Gospel in the hardest countries in the world? What can we do, here at CBC? Hope to see you there!

Study buddy notes for our next study in 1 John are now available to collect from church or you can download them here. You’ll also find them on Grace Place, along with all the previous notes. We’ll meet again in person on Monday 26th February so make a note in your diary! 🙂

Corsham Churches Together Lent groups

All are warmly invited to join a Lent course which will be running across five weeks, starting Monday 19th February. The group will meet at St Aldhem’s Church on Mondays at 7.30pm (refreshments from 7pm), repeated at St. Patrick’s on Thursdays at 10.30am (refreshments from 10am). For more information speak to David Morrell.

Meal Train – Coordinator needed

Our Meal Train Ministry has been running for many years, blessing members of our church family at times of both joy and challenge. The meal train provides up to two weeks of meals to those who have welcomed new babies or are going through difficult times due to illness or injury. Meals are provided by a rota of generous volunteers and are set up (with the help of a very useful online app) by the coordinator.

Since 2020 the Meal Train Ministry has been coordinated by Lucy Lewis, who will sadly be leaving Corsham Baptist Church later this year. Meal Train coordination is straightforward and there is a clear process in place already. On average, we deliver a meal train every other month and coordination takes 1-2 hours per meal train. So this is a great ministry for someone interested in getting more involved in church life and getting to know church members, but who doesn’t have loads of time to offer. For more information please contact Lucy Lewis on 07446 953259.

Our Vision

At the last church meeting , the Oversight Team introduced our vision for the next 5-10 years at Corsham Baptist Church. We’ve made a 5 minute video that explains the core of that vision which you can watch here (https://youtu.be/3vipV4643tc). Do watch the video and prayerfully consider how God may be calling you to join with us in our shared aim of increasing the adoration of Jesus.

Supporting CBC Financially: Pledging Information

As you will know from the church meeting last week, we’re facing a deficit of approximately £19k for our next financial year. This is due to costs having increased over the years since we last had a full pastor roster, but income remaining unchanged. As discussed at the meeting there is a need for further recurring income to fund our year ahead (Sept 23-Aug 24) and we are asking people to prayerfully consider increasing their giving. We are asking people to increase their giving as soon as they can, but recognise that for some this is not feasible. We’re asking for giving to increase now, because it enables greater clarity around budgeting ahead of time.

If you are able to pledge additional monthly giving to the church to help support the running costs, please follow this link to complete a Google form. Paper copies will be available at church on Sunday for those who would prefer not to do this electronically. Thank you for your prayerful consideration on this matter.

Seeking 11:15 Creche Volunteers

We are looking for Creche volunteers for the 11:15 service. Please click on this link to find out more information and to express your interest: https://forms.gle/r9yoQ8bqj1Q4nc7a7

For further information please contact Vicky Kelly or Elspeth Pitman

Hall Refurbishment

The painting of the Hall begins over the next couple of weeks and the laying of the new flooring commences Monday 27th March. This is expected to take 4 days, although any delay or overrun could extend this. Any ministries/activities taking place in the church during that week will be disrupted due to the works taking place in the main hall, middle hall and the 3 side rooms, and will need to consider the practicalities of how they operate for that week. If anyone has any questions please speak to Jonny Street or John Godwin.

Women’s Retreat 21st-23rd April

Our Women’s Retreat venue is confirmed and we’ll be going to Windmill Farm which is a beautiful spot about an hour’s drive away. Sharon D will be teaching us from God’s Word. Arrival is from 4pm on the Friday. We’ll head home after lunch on the Sunday after a fun-filled weekend of fellowship. If that’s not enough to get you excited, have a look at the Windmill Farm website: https://www.windmillfarm.online/

The total cost for the weekend, full board (including a cooked breakfast!) is £162 for a shared room and £232 for a single room. A £35 non-refundable deposit is payable and you can download a booking form here. Your deposit payment can be made in cash, by cheque (payable to Corsham Baptist Church) or bank transfer using reference LADIES23 (bank details from the church office). Please let us know when you have paid your deposit so we can confirm your booking. We look forward to some wonderful fellowship together!

CBC Meal Train – Call for Volunteers

As many of you know CBC has a meal train ministry, which provides ready made meals (fresh or frozen) to church family members in need of additional support. This is often new parents, those recovering from illness or hospital admission, or struggling with particularly difficult life circumstances.

Currently we have a number of regular volunteers who are themselves contending with challenges and as a result, our team of volunteers would greatly benefit from new members. This ministry is a great way to offer ad hoc support to the church community and volunteering does not commit you to help every meal train, or provide any particular number of meals throughout the year.

Information is shared as and when requests come in, so volunteers can give what they feel able in terms of time and resources. If you are interested in helping, or would like to find out more, please contact Lucy Lewis on 07446 953259.

Prayer and donations for Ukraine

Important Message from the STRIPE Team

Please read carefully

The STRIPE team have met to reconsider our COVID policy in the light of the Government Press conference on 22nd October. For those who tuned in, it was clear that the Government is concerned about the rising infection levels going into winter and there was a strong emphasis on getting booster jabs for those who are eligible but also that the public take sensible precautions even though, at this stage, they are not being mandated.

In the light of that and the high levels locally, we decided that the wise and responsible thing to do at this point is to step up our precautionary measures, to protect our more vulnerable members in particular, and so that Church can remain open and worship can be as free and meaningful as possible. Clearly, the rational thing to do is to prevent infection entering the Church if at all possible and then to mitigate with additional measures too.

Advice set out at https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus is as follows

Coronavirus remains a serious health risk. You should stay cautious to help protect yourself and others.

Let fresh air in if you meet indoors.

Wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces where you come into contact with people you do not normally meet

Get tested and self-isolate if required

If you haven’t already, get vaccinated

On 1, we are carrying out a technical survey which will tell us how well air is circulating within the building and if additional ventilation is felt necessary, we will be recommending to the Trustees that investment into ensuring windows all open and other practical measures are implemented with all speed possible

On 2, We are providing zones where face coverings are mandatory (in the balcony) and can be used by those who feel more comfortable in that environment. When and if the Church becomes crowded, face masks can be worn in any part of the Church or you can elect to attend one of the other weekly services where numbers are lower – 9.15 on Sunday or the Midweek on a Wednesday. Alternatively, services will continue to be live streamed.

On 3,

if you develop COVID symptoms, you should get a PCR test and stay away from Church until you have a negative result or isolate if the test is positive,

If you have no COVID symptoms, to protect others, we strongly encourage and request you to take a lateral flow test if you are over 12 years of age before attending church, regardless of vaccination status, and stay away if you get a positive result. If you have COVID in your household but you test negative on a test, please wear a face covering when you attend Church

We don’t believe it’s the role of the Church to dictate vaccination policy but please do consider this carefully and responsibly

We will clearly mark one side of the balcony as stage 3 restrictions (face masks at all times, no singing & social distancing). If more people wish to adopt these measures, we will designate further space to it

We will keep the chairs downstairs spaced to allow for some measure of social distancing

We will keep doors open and put fans by the open doors to ensure the room is not enclosed in line with advice here:
COVID-19: ventilation of indoor spaces to stop the spread of coronavirus

We may ask everyone to wear a face covering in certain circumstances where the leadership consider the building to be crowded

We will continue to provide coloured stickers to reflect people’s appetite for touch.

We understand this is a difficult time with cases rising in our area, and our earnest desire is to care for each other whilst continuing to worship together in the most conducive environment possible. We recognise that these additional measures will be considered by some to be too lax and by others to be too draconian. Please bear with us and with each other and consider others compassionately. This situation is not one that any of us would have wanted and we are all trying to do our very best to plot a path that is as unintrusive as we can make it whilst taking responsible steps to protect each other

Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation. Ultimately, our heavenly Father is in control and having used the gift of rationality he has blessed us with, we must trust Him to take care of us as we meet to worship Him.

Two Hundred Years of CBC

Did you know that Corsham Baptist Church will soon be 200 years old?

Many Baptist, as other evangelical churches have a long history and Corsham Baptist Church is, in many ways typical of many of them. Started around 1823 by a small group of believers meeting in a cottage in what was then really only a village, the new church was joined by a man, self-taught in the faith, who became moved by a desire to evangelise all of North West Wiltshire. Henry Webley led the church for many years, initiated the construction of the present chapel building in Corsham, then went on to construct six more in the various villages around about.

A book has now been written by Paul Garcia chronicling the history of the church through the 21 pastors down the years, along with details of the many rises and falls of the church and its chapels. Included too are stories of the dead from two World wars, ‘special people’ who made an impact over the two centuries, the various ministries in which the church is involved currently and memories of some of the older folk.

The book includes contributions by Rev. Eddie Larkman, who also wrote a Foreword, Rev. Marc Owen from the 1980s, Sheila Woolford and many others.

The book is now on sale at the back of the church any day or directly from the author (email me at paulgarcia1@live.com), cost £8.99. Payment can be via cash, cheques or bank transfer (Sort Code 08-90-12, Account no. 17037914).

Please note that all profits including any extra donations will go for relief of the Persecuted Church via Open Doors, a charity close to my heart. For us as Christians, I believe the persecution of our brothers and sisters across the World is an incredibly important concern.

Souper Friday: Can you help?

Souper Friday – we are planning to open up again for soup/roll/tea/coffee very soon!

We need volunteers to help run this event every Friday.

We still plan to continue with a small number of deliveries and have our ‘market stall’ open, whilst at the same time there will be refreshments available.

If you can help with…

Food packing (market stall).

Providing soup.

Serve in the kitchen

Sit in the coffee hall to listen and chat.

Setting up/down.

This history chronicles the 21 pastors down the years, along with details of the many rises and falls of the church and its chapels. Included too are stories of the dead from two World wars, ‘special people’ who made an impact over the two centuries, the various ministries in which the church is involved currently and memories of some of the older folk.

The book includes contributions by Rev. Eddie Larkman, who also wrote a Foreword, Rev. Marc Owen from the 1980s, Sheila Woolford and others.

The book will be on sale from the author after the two Priory Street services, cost £8.99. Payment can be via cash, cheques or bank transfer.

Please note that all profits including any extra donations will go for relief of the Persecuted Church via Open Doors and Barnabas Fund, two charities close to my heart. For us as Christians, I believe this is an incredibly important concern.

Craft Group Outreach

In the light of the recent increase in Covid cases, Pam M. and Hazel H. have decided to cancel the remaining Craft Group sessions for this year (November and December). Please check the notices for information about when the group will restart in the New Year.

…then please contact:

Midweek Service

The next Midweek Service is this Wednesday, 29th September at 2pm.

Harvest Giving

Harvest is a time which speaks of God’s amazing provision for us, and this year we are planning to hold a Harvest Festival celebration “On the Farm” on Sunday 3 October. This year, our Harvest offerings will be used to support the work of Tearfund, so please do pray about how you can contribute towards this.

Covid 19 may make things a little more awkward than normal, but you will be able to give through CBC in a number of ways, and in certain circumstance you will be able to Gift Aid your donation (more details about this aspect are outlined below):

Cash or cheques (made out to Corsham Baptist Church) should be enclosed in a sealed, plain envelope simply marked “Tearfund” and placed in the offering box at Priory Street, or on the day at the Farm.

If you are unable to come to Priory Street, then your donation enclosed in a marked, sealed envelope could be handed to one of the Treasury Team either Michael P, Reinier S, & Roger H, or to Paul G at Church on the Green.

If you would like to donate on line, then please use the Corsham Baptist Church account with Lloyds (Sort Code: 30-91-99 Account Number: 01480604) and reference the payment “Tearfund”.

Alternatively, you may wish to give through Tearfund direct, and here is a link to help you do this, and give you the opportunity to find out more about their work:

https://www.tearfund.org/campaigns/harvest-appeal

With regard to Gift Aid:

If you have a current gift aid declaration and you give through CBC either by cheque or on line, then we will automatically reclaim gift aid unless you advise us otherwise.

If you give through Tearfund direct, then you will have the opportunity to complete their gift aid declaration, on line at the time of making your donation.

A note from the [CBC] Treasury

The Treasury Team have started the process to close down the accounts for the year ended 31 August 21.

If you have any outstanding expenses claims for costs incurred during the financial year just ended, please could you ensure that the claim along with the supporting paperwork reaches Roger before Thursday 30 Sep 21. Claims forms are available in either electronic or paper form, and claims may be submitted by email, by post through the church letterbox or Roger’s letterbox at home, or left in The Treasurer’s box in the office at Priory Street.
Many thanks
Roger

And because that is too easy on its own, projection of lyrics.

And if you’re interested but can’t make this day, speak to anyone on the desk at the back of church next time you’re there.

CBC week of prayer, Sunday 5th – 12th September.

With the search for a Senior Pastor in progress, the move out of lockdown, the beginning of the new academic year, and updates to our church leadership structure, the need for prayer is as urgent as it has ever been in the history of CBC. And so, we’re calling every person who’s a part of the CBC community – yes, every one of us – to make prayer a priority for this week.

Who can join in? Everyone! All ages and stages can join in. Why not encourage toddlers and children to pray for our church, too. We’re conscious that some may be anxious about meeting in-person in the church building at this time, so there are opportunities to gather in Priory Street on both Sundays, but also opportunities both to pray together in person, and to pray individually, too.

How can I do that? It doesn’t need to be kneeling next to your bed (but you can if that’s where you pray best). Here are some other suggestions:

Pray together at Priory Street: 6pm on Sunday 5th September and Sunday 12th September to start and end the week.

Dedicate your LIFE groups, formation groups, youth groups, small groups, prayer partners, or any other time you get together as believers to praying for CBC this week.

Go on prayer walks, prayer sits, prayer zoom meetings, prayer bumbles. (Not sure how to do that? See the How-To Guide attached to these notices called “How to prayer walk.pdf”.

Use some of your private prayer time to lift up CBC before God.

Commit to pray in one of the time slots during the week of prayer. We’ll have a sign-up list at the back of Priory Street from this Sunday morning. (You can commit individually or as a small group), or you can sign up by emailing Cathy S. at cathys@corshambaptists.org

What should I pray for?

Week-of-Prayer-Prayer-points-Sep-2021Download

Please use this list to guide your prayers during the week of Prayer

Finally… We’ll close the week of prayer with a service of prayer on Sunday 12th at 6pm at Priory Street. You will be able to leave your child with us and join in the service in the sanctuary. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to speak to Rhiannon to find out about serving in Junior Church, if you want to know more about children’s work Rhiannon can be found in the garden.

Let’s all pray together in the CBC week of prayer, Sunday 5th – 12th September.

See the How-To Guide attached to these notices called “How to prayer walk.pdf”.)

There will be a full prayer list with the notices on Sunday 5th September, but here are some ideas to get you started:

Pray for the search for a new Senior Pastor.

Pray for CBC as we work out how this church can most glorify God as we come out of lockdown.

Finally… We’ll close the week of prayer with a service of prayer on Sunday 12th at 6pm at Priory Street. We can gather and encourage one another with answered prayers, and by sharing what we feel God has been teaching us during the week. We’ll have a box at the back of Priory Street if you want to share how God is speaking to you throughout the week, or you can email Rob Durant at robd@corshambaptists.org
