If we’re all slaves, how can we be free? Only by being slaves to a Master who offers us freedom. Jesus promises to give us rest, to take all our burdens. This is the freedom God offers. It’s freedom from anything that weighs us down: sin, guilt, shame, despair – freedom from idols. It’s freedom to be the people we were created to be, and would love to be. But it’s not an autonomous freedom. It is to be yoked, to have a Master, to be a slave.
