colossians-4-12-400x40010My fellow prisoner Aristarchus sends you his greetings, as does Mark, the cousin of Barnabas. (You have received instructions about him; if he comes to you, welcome him.) 11Jesus, who is called Justus, also sends greetings. These are the only Jews among my co-workers for the kingdom of God, and they have proved a comfort to me. 12Epaphras, who is one of you and a servant of Christ Jesus, sends greetings. He is always wrestling in prayer for you, that you may stand firm in all the will of God, mature and fully assured. 13I vouch for him that he is working hard for you and for those at Laodicea and Hierapolis. 14Our dear friend Luke, the doctor, and Demas send greetings. 15Give my greetings to the brothers and sisters at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house. 16After this letter has been read to you, see that it is also read in the church of the Laodiceans and that you in turn read the letter from Laodicea. 17Tell Archippus: “See to it that you complete the ministry you have received in the LORD.” 18I, Paul, write this greeting in my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you. COLOSSIANS 4:10-18

As we conclude our praying of Colossians for the summer, may it bear great fruit in our lives; that we may continue pray your Word more and more for it is Your will for our lives. Thank you for all the examples of the close ‘one anothering’ in this passage. Thank you for their radical commitments of discipleship, reconciliation, comfort, encouragement, generosity, hospitality, and long-term perseverance. We also thank you for Epaphras who shows us the importance of praying for the church; and to pray focusing on God’s priorities. Finally, thank you for Paul, whose writing this letter from prison reminds us of his willingness to suffer. Cause us to be shaped to live out out our Christianity in the ways of these early Christians.

To the One Who gives us all we need for life and godliness,

Jesus Christ our Lord, our everything!

5 Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. 6 Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Colossians 4:5-6 NIV

col 2 3We thank You that through your word, we know that it is relevant and important for our day-to-day lives in declaring Christ.  In doing so, cause us to be wise which is summed up of being IN CHRIST. Help us to show Christ as we live for You. May we grow in our sense of urgency as we know that You are waiting patiently for unbelievers to repent, not wanting anyone to perish. As we spend time with unbelievers, help our conversation to be distinctive, and filled with the aroma of the gospel so that we reflect You in small and big ways. Please use us to draw those in our spheres of influence to You, the hope of life and death.

We pray this through the name of Jesus, AMEN

Pray the Word photo2 Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart. 3 Pray for us, too, that God will give us many opportunities to speak about his mysterious plan concerning Christ. That is why I am here in chains. 4 Pray that I will proclaim this message as clearly as I should.

Colossians 4:2-4 New Living Translation

2Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should.

Colossians 4:2-4 New International Version

Lord, we thank You for the clear instructions that you give us through the Apostle Paul. Help us to cultivate a habit of prayerfulness as individuals and as a church family. Cause us to grow to truly understand this crucial aspect of our lives IN CHRIST; to make it a reality in our every day lives and to further your kingdom work of Christ by supporting others in prayer.

With thankful hearts we pray in Christ’s name, AMEN.

CLOTHE YOURSELVES12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tender hearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. 13 Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. 14Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful. 16 Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. 17 And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.” Colossians 3:12-17 NLT

COL 3Thank you Lord, that because we are IN CHRIST, we have become a loved, chosen, and holy people. As this scripture teaches us, help us to live this out in the details of our lives; that knowing we have been declared holy IN CHRIST,  will motivate us to actually drive us to change. Cause us to grow in spiritual maturity and take responsibility where we display changed relationships with other people. May your Spirit help us to love like Jesus loves. In our CBC communities, continue to grow us to be people who are peace-filled, word shaped, and always thankful. Change our hearts to honour Christ in all we do; that in our lives individually and together as His people, the world will see that you are over EVERYTHING we do. YOU are for us. Thank you our Triune God!

In Jesus’ name we pray, AMEN

Pray the Word photo“So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshipping the things of this world. 6 Because of these sins, the anger of God is coming. 7 You used to do these things when your life was still part of this world. 8 But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behaviour, slander, and dirty language. 9 Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. 10 Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him. 11 In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us.” Colossians 3:5-11 NLT

Thank you Father that because our new, hidden life in Christ changes who we are; IN CHRIST! Help us to realize more every day that we can’t both have a life in Christ and a life in sin. Help us to kill and eradicate the remaining sin in our lives, one day at a time. Cause us to realize that our calling now is not to negotiate or procrastinate with sin. Help us to take drastic action with sin, as these verses teach. Put-off-the-Old-Self-and-Put-on-the-New.Change our mindsets as we live our lives IN CHRIST. Help us to throw off our “old selves” and continually “put on our new selves” with the mindset of Christ. Please bring about deep change in our friendships, family, marriages and dealings with people in the workplace and our spheres of influence. Help us to be truth telling people. As a church family, help us to embrace that man-made differences and divisions are unimportant because we are Christ’s people. Praise our Triune God that YOU are all that matters, and You live in all of us! May we honour and glorify Christ by our unity.

It is in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour in which we pray, Amen.

Pray the Word photoSince you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honour at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. “ Colossians 3:1-4

Thank you for our new life which is hidden in Christ. For we know that our ‘normal’ lives will one day come to an end, but our life with You will go on forever when you come back. Help us to continually seek the life above with Jesus Christ and not to be drawn away.  Help us to live out what we have IN CHRIST; our everything! Help our lives to be shaped not by our circumstances or the opinions of others, but by Christ, our hope in life and death.

In Jesus Christ we pray, AMEN.

Pray the Word photo8 Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. 9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority. 11 When you came to Christ, you were “circumcised,” but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. 12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead. 13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. 14 He cancelled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15 In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.”

Colossians 2:8-15 New Living Translation

We are grateful to You and Your Word which warns us NOT to be led astray and deceived by false new movements or messages or experiences that draw us away from You! Lord help us to keep our eyes on Christ that Christ lives in all Your fullness in a human body which makes us complete! We have died Colossians 2-10 You Are Complete In Christ blackand been raised to a new life with Christ! We thank you because the sin and rebellion have been cut away from our hearts IN Christ for a new beginning with You! Praise God, our sins have been dealt with at the cross where every spiritual authority and power lays defeated at Christ’s feet! Thank you Lord! Help this sink into our hearts so that we will less likely to drift from Christ. Cause us to realize more everyday, that we don’t need to add to Christ; but instead to remind ourselves constantly of the greatness of Christ and all that He is for us. Help us to stand together as a church family in this reality and truth.

We entrust ourselves into Your care as we grow in You and love others, AMEN.

Pray the Word photo“6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”

Dear Lord,

We thank you for the summary of Paul’s teaching of his letter to the church in these verses. Thank you that there is nothing more to add to You. Help us to continue to follow You because You are everything! You are always what we need! Being IN YOU is always enough. Thank you Lord. Help us not to be spiritually lazy or passive, but to be actively walking and maturing in Christ. Help us to grow up in You; that our roots will grow deep and our lives will built up in Your truth alone. Cause us to grow stronger every day- IN YOU ALONE.  Please fill our hearts with thankfulness for the gift of our salvation and life in You.

In Jesus’ holy name,
