The Ark

The Ark will be taking place virtually this week…please see this link! https://www.facebook.com/groups/726702974088284/

Church opening…

With the easing of lockdown, the Oversight Team wants to support as many events as possible that will allow us to encourage one another as a Christ-following community. We are currently form a ‘Tiger Team’ to decide how and when the church will re-open.

More details are expected from Government, Baptist Union and Tigers in the coming days and we hope to announce initial details in next week’s notices.

A Souper Story

“The Lord has done great things for us and we are filled with joy.” starts Joan, quoting Psalm 126. In the short time this ministry has been running things have changed in ways the team never imagined. You can read all the LORD has been doing here.

Parliamentary Prayer Breakfast – this Tuesday!

Please see the link below to the Parliamentary Prayer breakfast – taking place this Tuesday. This year it will be available to all online: https://corshambaptists.org/?p=9175. In an update since we first highlighted this Sue W says both Michelle Donelan (MP for Priory St) and James Gray (MP for Rudloe) have confirmed their attendance.

Do you have video editing skills?

Or would you like to gain some? If so, maybe you’d like to serve by putting together and uploading to YouTube the Sunday services for Priory Street? Contact Tim S for details.

Why mission? Friday 29th @7:30pm

Apologies that this is a little last minute… I have just been made aware of this live question and answer session hosted by our WEC mobilisation department. There will be a panel of four people – one is the new director of WEC UK who spent many years in Thailand, and there is also couple we know who worked in Senegal at BCS and then in Tanzania.

The call is on Zoom, click the ‘contact us’ link to be provided a password to join. Steve and Gill

Benevolence Fund update

The Committee wish to acknowledge the Lord’s goodness and to thank all those who have generously contributed to the Fund over the last few weeks. A total of £9,228 has been received in gifts, and a further £1,789 is expected from gift aid, which has enabled the Committee to consider a number of the Church family who are experiencing financial stress at this difficult time and to make Grants totalling £2,700. Sadly, we do expect further cases of financial hardship as the blow to the economy caused by the measures to contain the Corona Virus lead to pressures on some who are self employed as well as those who may suffer job losses. We continue to rely on the Lord’s goodness in caring for our Church family and this is one way in which those who are able can reach out to other brothers and sisters in a very practical way. If you are able and wish to join in this demonstration of our love for each other, please speak to Roger who will guide you on how to make contributions. Also, if you are aware of a brother or sister who is experiencing financial hardship, please let one of the Committee know so that we can consider a grant to them. Rob P

Family News

After 19 years at CBC, the last five with Church on the Green, Jeremy and Louise du Toit have decided it is time to seek a new direction with the Lord. This has not been an easy decision but with both Zach and Courteney now starting careers and the challenges to their taxi business during the Covid crisis, this feels like the time for a new start. Louise has also tendered her resignation as Church Administrator and PA to Eddie and Rob. Her last day will be Monday 29th June. I am sure that I speak for all staff, trustees and members that we have really appreciated both Jeremy and Louise’s contribution to the church and we wish them the very best in where God leads them next and hope to catch up with them in the future. Courteney will remain a member and attender of the 11:15 service and Zach will attend CBC when he visits Corsham from Wales.

With the current uncertainties, CBC will not seek to replace Louise immediately but we hope to bring a plan to the church in due course. Tim

Notices for 10 May 2020

What happens after lockdown?

The Oversight Team met tonight as we have been doing regularly, though as with so many things, this is now online. We wanted to recognise that many of you are missing meeting together and worshipping in church.

We share this desire to ‘unlock’ and have been working on a plan. However, in truth we expect that plan will have to evolve and we don’t know when it will be possible to put it into action.

As you will be aware, the Prime Minister plans to speak on the potential for reducing restrictions on Sunday evening and we will watch and follow as the guidance evolves.

Church on the Green @ 10am

Rob will be leading interactive Bible Study and prayer as last week. You’ll be able to join online or via a standard phone call as follows:

Priory Street – joint service @ 10am

The ‘new normal’ continues with prayer and fellowship – contact your LIFE group leaders for when and how that is happening. Or use the contact form if you’re not part of one but would like to join in.

The observant amongst you will have noticed that we didn’t organise communion last week. So please consider this notice that we will have communion next week (17th).

As before please have bread and wine or symbolic alternatives to hand and we will share in remembering Christ’s sacrifice for us.

Junior Church

Activities for various age groups will be live on the CBC Junior Church channel on Sunday morning.

Missionary corner

Steve and Gill’s lockdown is not so different to normal times as much of their work is encouragement and support for missionaries far from Corsham. However some training this summer, originally to be held in the Netherlands and now to be online, is requiring some adjustment. And please pray for a very long day Monday as they travel to Steve’s father’s funeral and back.

Making Masks!!

Ruth Lancaster is making  masks for people in Morogoro and at Sanga and is asking for help from us.   She refers us to online instructions. Please click on this link https://www.facebook.com/595420430/posts/10163295672835431/ Martin Sheringham is happy to organise collection and postage to Tanzania!

Souper Fridays

In January we started “Souper Friday”, a free lunch of soup and bread, tea and coffee from 1 – 2.30pm every Friday in Corsham Baptist Church hall. Since the lockdown we have taken this ‘on the road’ in the form of delivering food parcels along with a socially-distanced chat and prayer! We are collecting groceries from local supermarkets to enable this and reducing food  being thrown away at the end of the day. This is available to all church folk and the wider community in Corsham, Chippenham and surrounding areas. Please get in touch using the church email or phone if you would like to receive this support, know anyone who would benefit or need anything else during this difficult time eg. prescriptions collected or a paper copy of the sermon.

Additionally, if anyone is able to loan a small chest freezer on a temporary basis we would be most grateful. Thank you.

Notices for 12 April 2020 – Easter Sunday

This song began as a ‘hymn of hope’ and takes inspiration from the Heidelberg Catechism of 1563: “What is your only comfort in life and in death?” How appropriate for an Easter Sunday? Read the full story here.

Weekly challenge

This is an online What’s App group that launched last week to help those who struggle with the discipline of reading the Bible (or whose routine has simply been thrown by Covid-19) to be accountable to each other in feeding ourselves, and share insights to feed and encourage each other. It involves reading a chapter of Scripture a day on weekdays (with weekends for catch up, if necessary).  And then Dan uploads a short reflection of his own on his reading of the passage in the evening. This week focuses on 2 Peter.

Initially for youth, but now opened out to all. I (Dan) would perhaps discourage anyone with their own system from joining, because it can overload and ruin our own devotional routines.

To get in touch about this, or any of the youth ministry at CBC at this time, please contact Dan O (email and phone number in the directory).

CBC Benevolent Fund

Further to the message from our Treasurer last week the Leadership Team has now established a formal Fund. Please read and pray about the announcement here.
